Key Points in the Construction of PVC Waterproofing Membrane

For PVC waterproofing membrane to achieve the best waterproof effect, the construction process is of vital importance. Mastering the key points of construction can fully demonstrate its advantages.

Pre-construction preparation work is essential. First of all, the substrate must be treated strictly. The surface of the substrate should be flat, solid, dry, and clean, free from debris, dust, and protrusions. For example, if there are loose stones on the substrate, it’s easy to puncture the membrane after laying it, destroying the integrity of the waterproof layer. So, tools should be used to carefully clean the substrate, and repair and leveling should be carried out when necessary to ensure that the substrate meets the construction requirements.

During the laying process of the membrane, attention should be paid to the laying direction of the membrane. Generally speaking, when the slope of the roof is less than 3%, the membrane is preferably laid parallel to the ridge; when the slope of the roof is between 3% and 15%, the membrane can be laid parallel or perpendicular to the ridge; when the slope of the roof is greater than 15%, the membrane should be laid perpendicular to the ridge. Choosing the appropriate laying direction according to the slope is to ensure better drainage and the fixing effect of the membrane and avoid problems such as sliding.

Furthermore, the splicing treatment between the membranes is also crucial. PVC waterproofing membrane is often spliced by hot air welding. When welding, parameters such as the temperature, speed, and pressure of the hot air should be controlled well. If the temperature is too high, it may cause excessive melting of the membrane, resulting in flowing and deformation. If the temperature is too low, the welding will not be firm. The welding speed should be uniform to ensure that each weld can achieve a good connection effect. Strict quality inspections should also be carried out on the welds, such as air tightness testing, to check whether there are problems like missed welding or false welding.

After the construction is completed, it’s necessary to do a good job in protecting the finished product. Avoid damaging the laid waterproof layer during subsequent construction. For example, it’s strictly prohibited to stack heavy objects or sharp items on the waterproof layer. Meanwhile, regular inspections and maintenance of the waterproof layer should also be paid attention to, so as to detect and deal with possible problems in time and extend the service life of the PVC waterproofing membrane waterproof layer.

Only by strictly controlling each link of the construction and operating in accordance with the key points of construction can PVC waterproofing membrane play its powerful role in building waterproofing.
